Jackie Brown

A departure from
Tarantino’s usual style

2024 School project

Jackie Brown stands out from Quentin Tarantino’s usual style by toning down on-screen violence while still featuring sharp dialogue and strong language. The poster design reflects this philosophy: rather than explosive action imagery, typical for the 70s blaxploitation cinema the movie references, it instead takes inspiration from vintage airplane safety cards. This mirrors the film's era, and includes nods to its setting and dialogue.

After researching the context of the film, I created the illustrations and made typographic adjustments to the title, creating a unique design that has more meaning than first meets the eye.

The typographic adjustment of the title pays homage to Jackie Brown’s own design, which in turn takes inspiration from Foxy Brown, also starring Pam Grier as a powerful female lead.
